When its members listed the high cost of health care as their #1 concern, SAMA took action and sought out innovative solutions. The result?
SAMA asked for and received a waiver from the Missouri Department of Insurance to form an association health plan whereby small and large employers could join together to purchase group health insurance under a common plan design and single premium structure. 1st and only time in Missouri history!
The SAMA I Health Care Consortium was formed with 32 member companies and over 2,000 covered lives -- one of the largest buying groups for health care in Southwest Missouri.
SAMA led the way in changing Missouri law through HB 1827 to allow association health plans similar to the SAMA I Health Care Consortium to be formed, providing access to affordable health care for all Missouri employers.
